Digital Quill 1.0 DEMO
----------------------
--------------
------
Welcome:
--------
Welcome to the demonstration version of Digital Quill. You will have to
run "Install_Quill" to install it on your system before using it. Then
just double-click on the Quill icon and play around to your heart's
content.
Quill is a fast, friendly and full-featured text editor. Here's a quick
rundown of some of the highlights of its feature list:
> Very fast text scrolling.
> Quick disk operations.
> Fast find and replace.
> Fully configurable button strip, or "SpeedBar".
> Completely font adaptive and localized user interface.
> Complies rigidly with Commodore's user interface style guidelines.
> Requires at least release 2.1 of the Amiga's OS, and takes full
advantage of release 3.x features.
> Complete context sensitive hypertext online help via AmigaGuide.
> Extensive ARexx interface.
> Macros can be recorded, played back or hand-written, and be assigned
to a key combination, a pull-down menu item, or a SpeedBar button.
> A full array of conventional text editing features:
· clipboard support
· choice of true or "fake" tabs and configurable tab size
· word wrap
· auto-indent
· bookmarks
· case conversion
· bracket matching, both automatic and on-demand
Some changes were made to Quill since the manual was written, which will
be described here-in, so please take the time to read this file
completely.
Demo Limitations:
-----------------
As this is just a demo of Quill, there are some limitations built into it:
· You must respond to a requester when Quill first starts up.
· Saving and printing files is disabled.
· Saving your settings is also disabled.
· Copies to the clipboard via Cut or Copy will be truncated to 500
bytes.
· The compiler support macros mentioned below are not included.
None of the above limitations exist in the commercial version.
Quill Font:
-----------
An attractive fixed-width font has been included that you may wish to use
with Quill. It also makes an excellent system font. 9 point and 11 point
sizes are provided.
Sample Macros:
--------------
Several sample disk macros have been included with Quill. Please read the
file Sample_Macros for more information on these. You can optionally
install these using the Installer script.
Compiler Support:
-----------------
Also included with Quill are some sample macros for integrating the
SAS/C++ 6.5x, DICE C 3.0, or Benchmark Module-2 compilers. You can
optionally install the macros for the compiler of your choice using the
Installer script.
If you enhance any of the included macros, or write some new ones that
you'd be interested in having included with Quill, please contact Phantom
Development and we'd be happy to include them with future versions of
Quill.
Purchasing Quill:
-----------------
Digital Quill will be available September 1995 at quality Amiga dealers
everywhere with a suggested retail price of $59.95 US. If there isn't an

A Final Note from the Author:
-----------------------------
The computer software industry has become very big business these days.
The Amiga software market is still quite small however, which makes it
very difficult for any piece of software to be successful, due to limited
number of people we're selling to. I've spent an aweful lot of time in
creating Digital Quill, and I genuinely hope it will be a tool that people
will find useful and benefit from. I would also like to be able to make a
living with it, since I have put so much time and effort into it and
supporting the Amiga. It is no secret that software piracy hurts
software developers profoundly, and no where more so than on a small
market platform like the Amiga. Therefore, allow me to appeal to you to
support the developers that are willing to stick it out with the Amiga and
not copy software illegally. Software pirates hurt developers and
drive them away, and therefore hurt the Amiga as a whole. By supporting
Amiga developers and not pirating, we can continue to put our efforts into
creating high quality Amiga applications in the years to come.
I've enjoyed creating Digital Quill, and I hope you enjoy using it.
